How to backcomb the hair

bouffant
Backcombing the hair will create lots of height and fullness as seen in this bouffant

Large backcombed beehives and French Pleats were iconic symbols of the 60’s, I don’t think there were any hairstyles that didn’t start with backcombed hair. Backcombing not only gives the hair lots of height and volume it also creates a knotty texture which stops the hair grips from moving around so it’s great for holding the hair in place all day. Here are some of my tips to point you in the right direction:  More…

Various ways to use coconut oil

coconut oil
Coconut oil

Coconut oil is probably one of the most versatile oils in both the kitchen and bathroom cabinet. It’s a saturated fat made up of medium-chain fatty acids which are very easily digested when taken internally and is the only oil that I use to cook with as it has the highest burn point of all the oils, it also makes a good skin moisturiser or base for adding essential oils to. It’s important that you get a good quality oil that is not hydrogenated (all hydrogenated oils should be avoided as they have been proven to be very damaging to your health). Look for ‘cold pressed raw virgin coconut oil’ when buying to make sure you are getting a good quality oil, I like Biona coconut oil which I buy in an 800g tub from Amazon.  It’s solid in cold temperatures and liquid in warmer temperatures so the consistency will change depending on the weather. Crystal deodorant sticks

crystal deodorant stick

I’m always on the look out for natural hair and beauty products and have recently been looking for a more natural type of deodorant, I’ve heard of crystal deodorant sticks before but never really took them seriously as the thought of a crystal doing anything for perspiration just seemed impossible. So last week I was ordering some faith in nature products as I wanted to try a new brand and stumbled across their crystal deodorant stick, I would have normally scrolled straight passed it but the reviews for it caught my attention as they were all pretty high and after reading them I became convinced it might be worth a try. So I added it to my basket with the thought that it probably wont work but I’m only wasting a few pounds. More…

Tips for applying eyeshadow

Applying eyeshadow must be the trickiest part of applying make-up as there are so many fiddly steps involved so I thought I would share my top tips to help you get the professional finish to your eye make-up every time:

  • Great eye make-up is always accompanied with great eyebrows, they frame both the face and eyes and if you get the shape right they can give you an instant lift creating a more youthful look. I’m a big fan of threaded eyebrows as the thread creates a beautiful line under the brow which gives the eyebrows definition. More…

Tips for applying liquid eyeliner

Place the edge of the masking tape where you want the edge of your eyeliner to be

If you are having trouble drawing your eyeliner freehand then the use of masking tape can help you get the edge of the flick nice and straight. Start by applying your make-up, when you are ready to draw your eyeliner cut and stick a small piece of masking tape to the outer corner of the eyes at the angle you would like your eyeliner to be. Tina is a very talented hair and make up artist. We hired her services for my daughters prom in 2016 and again recently for my younger daughters prom in June 2019. My daughter was very fussy and stressed about how her hair and make up would look. Tina is a very calm and easy going person and came to do a trial several months in advance which gave my daughter some peace of mind. On the day, her make up and hair was perfect, she loved it and was awarded Prom Queen...so thank you Tina as the hair and make up were the definitely the crowning glory.
